Senior Geologist – Structural and Regional

Crescent Petroleum Upstream is seeking a Senior Geologist – Structural and Regional (SGSR) to join the Subsurface Team. The SGSR will be responsible for establishing and maintaining structural models for Crescent Petroleum’s assets in close collaboration with internal seismic interpreters and external structural geology experts. The SGSR is also responsible for establishing regional geological syntheses including palaeogeography and depositional systems, and ideally, responsible for interpretation of regional depo-centres and reservoirs and seals in the context of hydrocarbon generation, migration and accumulation. The SGSR will be participating in reservoir characterisation studies, building geological static models and provide input to Upstream’s well delivery process and deliver technical support to ongoing drilling operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpretation of regional geology trends, petroleum systems and structural geology
• Establish models of palaeogeography and depositional systems
• Interpretation of fracture network evolution in Zagros fold and thrust belt
• Provide input to fracture and reservoir characterisation
• Establish regional log correlation tied to regional seismic
• Interpretation of the evolution of subsurface pressure systems (timing and controls)

Qualifications

• University degree in Geology/Geoscience - MSc or PhD degree is preferred
• 5-10 years in geology (E&P Operating Company or Geoscience Consultancy)

Additional Qualifications

• Working experience with tectonic styles and depositional environments of foreland Basins
• Understanding of the general depositional environments of a carbonate platform
• Working experience with fractured carbonate reservoirs
• Working experience with characterisation of fractures and direct and indirect detection of fractures 
• Understands sequence stratigraphic concepts and application to carbonate depositional systems
• Experience with geomodelling workflows including facies and property modelling
• Basic understanding of statistical methods applied to resource estimation
• Good knowledge of 1D petroleum systems modelling
• Proficiency in Seismic interpretation
• Good knowledge of and understanding of Petroleum Systems including basic Organic Geochemistry 
• Experience with the elements of geomodeling workflows including facies and property modelling
• Working experience with sequence stratigraphy

Working Place and Conditions

The job is based in Crescent Petroleum’s office in the Emirate of Sharjah, UAE but the job requires travel to both Federal Iraq (Baghdad and Basra) and Kurdistan Region of Iraq (Erbil and Sulaymaniyah) for partner/government meetings and project follow-up

Management reference 

The function is organisationally in Upstream/Subsurface and the Senior Geologist reports to the Lead Geologist. Also reporting to the Lead Geologist are Senior Geologists, Geologists and Junior Geochemist.
