Lead Geophysicist

Crescent Petroleum Upstream is seeking a technical lead for geophysics to join the Subsurface Team. The Lead Geophysicist will be leading a team of geophysicists and provide technical leadership for all geophysical studies including managing geophysical projects, providing expert analysis and guiding interpretation of geophysical data. An important part of this is managing team performance (goal setting and performance evaluation) and team development (identify training needs and support career advancement). In addition, the Lead Geophysicist is expected to lead the geophysics part of Upstream’s well delivery process and provide technical support to ongoing drilling operations as well as providing technical support to area asset managers and field development projects. Furthermore, it is expected that the Lead Geophysicist take part in the annual workplan and budget process to provide the necessary input pertaining to the geophysics domain. An important part of the Lead Geophysicist’s role is to plan and manage geophysics projects to ensure on-time delivery within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of geophysicists, providing technical guidance 
  • Undertake, manage, and deliver high quality technical project work 
  • Provide technical scope and deliverables for project proposals
  • Contribute to business development activities
  • Manage execution of geophysical projects ensuring timely delivery within budget
  • Develop and implement strategic goals and objectives for the geophysics team
  • Organise and contribute to partner workshops and meetings 
  • Track performance and manage costs of geophysics budget items
  • Evaluation of geophysical contracts including evaluation of new technologies and equipment
  • Design and oversee acquisition, processing, and interpretation of geophysical data
  • Advise on best equipment and software choices for geophysical data acquisition and processing
  • Design acquisition reporting templates and other appropriate documentation
  • Oversee seismic interpretation and cross discipline data integration 
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and documentation
  • Present interpretations, and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders
  • Provide mentoring and technical assistance to younger technical staff

Qualifications

  • University degree in geophysics - MSc or PhD degree is preferred
  • 12-15+ years of experience in geophysics (E&P Operating Company or Geoscience Consultancy)

Additional Qualifications

  • Held similar positions leading high-performance technical teams
  • Proven experience in managing geophysical projects
  • Expertise in seismic interpretation, data processing
  • Must be fluent in English, while skills in Arabic are an advantage
  • Must be proficient in Petrel whereas skills in other industry software is an advantage

Working Place and Conditions

The job is based in Crescent Petroleum’s office in the Emirate of Sharjah, UAE but the job requires travel to both Federal Iraq (Baghdad and Basra) and Kurdistan Region of Iraq (Erbil and Sulaymaniyah) for partner/government meetings and project follow-up

Management Reference

The function is organisationally in Upstream/Subsurface and the Lead Geophysicist reports to the Director, Subsurface. Also reporting to the Director, Subsurface are the Lead Geologist, Lead Petrophysicist, and Lead Reservoir Engineer.
