Job Description
Lead Geologist
Crescent Petroleum (CP) Upstream is seeking a Lead Geologist to join the Subsurface Team. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across all geology-related activities and manage a team of geologists to ensure the timely delivery of subsurface studies. Responsibilities include overseeing regional geological evaluations, structural geology, reservoir characterisation, geomodelling, petroleum systems analysis, and geochemistry in support of exploration, appraisal, and development activities.
The role also encompasses team leadership, including performance management, objective setting, competency development, and the identification of training needs to foster continuous improvement and technical excellence. In addition, the Lead Geologist will contribute to the annual work programme and budget process, providing geological input to support strategic planning and investment decisions
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver geological input to support asset maturation, evaluation, and ranking within appraisal and development portfolios.
- Define technical scopes, deliverables, and requirements for project proposals.
- Integrate seismic, well, core, and production data to develop and refine geological models, reservoir frameworks, and field architecture.
- Conduct probabilistic resource assessments in accordance with SPE-PRMS and other applicable classification systems.
- Collaborate with reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, and geophysicists to deliver integrated subsurface interpretations and maintain 3D geological models across all assets.
- Prepare and present technical documentation for internal reviews, partner meetings, Joint Management Committee meetings, and regulatory submissions.
- Mentor junior geoscientists and promote technical excellence through training and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure geological work meets governance and audit requirements and supports investment decisions through robust, evidence-based recommendations.
- Support well planning activities, including geological prognoses, geohazard assessment, and post-drill evaluations.
- Be accountable for all geological aspects of field development planning and execution.
- Develop and oversee geology workplans and contribute to annual work programme and budget submissions.
- Support business development activities through technical evaluations, due diligence, and opportunity screening
Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in Geology, Geoscience, or related field.
- 10-15+ years of experience in upstream oil & gas, with a focus on appraisal, development and reservoir characterization
Additional Qualifications
- Expertise in seismic interpretation, stratigraphy, structural geology, and basin analysis.
- Proficiency in geological modelling software, including Petrel and GeoX.
- Strong understanding of probabilistic resource estimation methods and volumetric uncertainty analysis
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects to successful delivery.
- Experience working with carbonate and naturally fractured reservoir systems.
- Strong knowledge of the regional geology and petroleum systems of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
- Ability to critically evaluate technical interpretations, challenge unsupported conclusions, and promote evidence-based decision-making.
- Excellent technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail in technical documentation and reporting
