For an upcoming multi-well drilling campaign, Crescent Petroleum is seeking Senior Operations Geologists (back-to-back) to oversee all geological aspects of exploration, appraisal, and development well operations. In this role, the Senior Operations Geologist will be part of ensuring full alignment with the Company’s HSSE standards and operational objectives. The Senior Operations Geologist is responsible for leading and delivering geological support for exploration, appraisal, and development drilling operations in Kurdistan, Iraq. The role provides technical operational input to well planning, geosteering, formation evaluation, data acquisition, geohazard assessment, and real-time drilling support to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective well execution. Working closely with drilling, subsurface, and service provider teams, the incumbent ensures achievement of well objectives, maintains the highest standards of HSSE and subsurface data integrity, manages operational geological risks, and drives continuous improvement through technical excellence, innovation, and the development of geological operations personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geological operations for exploration, appraisal, and development wells, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of well objectives.
  • Provide geological input to well planning, including BOD, well programmes, data acquisition, geohazard assessments, and operational procedures.
  • Deliver real-time geological support during drilling, including geosteering, formation evaluation, and operational decision-making.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate geological risks, uncertainties, and drilling-related geohazards.
  • Monitor drilling and geological data, ensuring quality control, accurate interpretation, and timely operational recommendations.
  • Lead formation evaluation activities, including mud logging, wireline logging, LWD, coring, pressure testing, and sample acquisition.
  • Manage Wellsite Geologists, Junior Operations Geologists, and geological service providers, ensuring high standards of safety, performance, and service quality.
  • Provide technical leadership, ensure compliance with company standards and regulations, and support drilling teams in resolving operational challenges and reducing NPT.
  • Prepare and review operational geology reports, manage performance against objectives, and drive continuous improvement through technology and best practices.
  • Foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and champion HSSE excellence in all geological operations.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Geology, Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or related field. MSc preferred.
  • Professional certification/accreditation is an advantage.
  • 15+ years in oil & gas, including 10+ years in operational geology supporting exploration, appraisal, and development drilling.
  • Proven experience in well planning, geological operations, real-time drilling support, and formation evaluation.
  • Experience supervising Wellsite Geologists and geological service providers.
